Background: The top tier division in Scotland between seasons 1998-99 & 2012-13. The Scottish Premier League was formed by the then ten highest placed clubs in the Scottish League Premier Division. The split from the Scottish Football League was taken in order to boost the financial opportunities for these clubs. A severance package was agreed with the Scottish Football League and a promotion/relegation system implemented but with conditions for entry such as stadium capacity.
